NEW VIDEO SERIES BIRDS AND POWER LINES AROUND US
Power lines form an unnatural barrier in the landscape and an obstacle for many species of animals. However, wild birds are the most affected by their presence. Flying birds are at risk of striking power lines that they do not notice in time. Birds of prey, in particular, like to use the 22 kV power poles as a resting place or to hunt for prey. But what happens when they connect two wires when they land? How can we prevent this and protect them?
The short videos (approximately 2 min) produced under the series Birds and the power lines around us explain and promote methods and approaches to ensure the safety of power lines for birds, including successful stakeholder collaboration. The videos are narrated in Slovak with English, Croatian, Hungarian, and Czech subtitles and are posted online: HERE. The series of videos was produced with the support of the LIFE Danube Free Sky project "Transnational Bird Conservation along the Danube", co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE Programme, and the project "Increased awareness on reducing human-caused mortality of wildlife", co-financed by the Governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia through the International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the International Visegrad Fund is to develop ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
