Since 2018, a smaller population of Dalmatian Pelicans (Pelecanus crispus) has been regularly wintering, but also present during summer, on the Danube between Negotin and Kladovo areas in eastern Serbia. So far, their numbers have been increasing slightly year after year. In late December 2025, workers from the Elixir factory near Prahovo informed our project partner - Birdlife Serbia that a large flock of Pelicans had formed downstream from the settlement.

On November 19, 2025, the sixth Project Board meeting of the LIFE Danube Free Sky project was held online, bringing together 25 participants representing 12 project partners across seven countries. Meet Vlatko Ećimović, Project Coordinator from Croatian Transmission System Operator (HOPS) ensuring that transmission power lines nearby the project area in Croatia are safer for birds - equipped with bird flight diverters. In Vlatko's words: "As Socrates said: “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” Our “Danube Free Sky” family follows this principle, bringing professional knowledge and expertise to save birds along Danube river. I wish all of us successful continuation on this project."
